Halloween

HALLOWEEN! It's unfortunately not really celebrated in Singapore. But my school organized a Halloween party (on Friday) so I celebrated it for the first time :):):)

Friday is the day with the fewest lessons, only 2 1 hour lectures and the party started at 6 so me and my friend had a looooooooooot of time to kill.

Went to the com lab first to do 3D homework. This week we had to model a present(complete with ribbon) and a dining table set.

After that went to AMK hub to eat. Finally found a suitable belt for my Kyoko! X3

And then I checked my phone at about 3+ and realised Mel released from school at about 12.45.....efffffffffffff ><

After that, walked back to school and slacked in the library for a while.

Oh yeah, the whole time, from lesson end (10am) to go home ( abt 10pm) (z0mg I was in school for more than 12 hrs 0.o), I looked like this

Yup! Short orange hair, cat ears and goth-loli outfit. Very sad that I don't have a cat tail. :(

Seriously, I even went to AMK Hub and back, looking like this. With my friend of course :)

Didn't really do a lot of trick or treating so my goodies only like that.

So the party started around 6.30+. It was fun to see some of the teachers dress up. My 3D teacher was Tony Stark. He wore a long sleeved tee and jeans with an LED light under his shirt. So there was the circle of lights thing on his chest :) He also had one on his hand

Another teacher dressed up as the Other Mother from Coraline.

She put huge black buttons on glasses and then carried a box with another pair of black buttons and a needle. Then she go up to girls and ask if we want to have buttons sewn on our eyes. LOL XD

There was a haunted house though I didn't go in.

And then at around 8+ they showed Sweeney Todd.

They projected it onto a wall. X) Finally got to watch it till the end (coz on Channel 5 always show late late at night :( ).

Then went home and zzzzzzz

I really should have posted this earlier, (I came back last Thursday night), but I got kinda...distracted, more on that later.

This is gonna be kind of a long post so I'm gonna take a few days to blog everything k? :)

So anyway, I went to Beijing for about a week. First time I didn't go with tour. We went in summer so the weather was kinda...weird I guess. It was like kinda warm everywhere the sun shines, but the wind is cold...so you can be feeling hot one moment and cold the next. Yeah...

I stayed in a service apartment which is sort of like a hotel but the layout is more like a house.

My bedroom :) Yup, for once I got a room to myself while on holiday

My parents room, slightly bigger and has a TV and bathroom. The bathroom also had both a shower area and a bathtub :)

So when we reached there it was like late evening so of course we couldn't go anywhere, just sort of walked around a bit. There was a 7-11 nearby so we went there to buy some stuff. Bought this cute little box of chewing gum.

Yeah, totally bought it for the box. At first, I didn't know it was chewing gum, I thought it was just some strawberry flavored sweet.

And inside, they even give a packet of small thin translucent little papers for you to throw the gum away. XD

There was also a brown bear one but that was green tea flavoured XP

The next day, we went for a local tour to the Great Wall and the Ming Tomb(s). So for local tour its just a small group of people and a local tour guide. The tour guide's english was... understandable I guess. It was off-peak season even though it was Saturday, coz it was just after a major holiday there. So on the tour there was only a total of 7 ppl, including me and my parents, 2 indians and 2 angmohs( I don't remember what country because of the next day's one... you'll see what I mean). So anyway, the others were just there for business and were just touring the popular destinations before starting their work.

The first place we went to was the Great Wall. I didn't actually climb much of course (that would be INSANE). There was a cable car that took us to somewhere sort of nearish the top of one of the towers and then we climbed up from there. Ad it was T.I.R.I.N.G. !!!!!!!!!!!!!

It alternated between slopes and steps. The slopes were SO STEEP, like almost 45 degrees (?) and the steps very uneven in height. Like some short some taller. So while climbing up the steps, 1 leg would be more tired than the other.

You can see quite a lot of people right? Yeah... this is OFF-PEAK season. Imagine PEAK season...

You know how its supposed to be colder the higher up you go... yeah... SO NOT TRUE at the top, it was warmer than at the bottom

There was also quite a few old people. Really awesome how they managed to "survive".

...yeah this has only been like about 3+ hours into the 1st day but I guess I'll stop here for now... coz dragging pics in Blogger is reeeeeeaaalllllyyyyy irritating

Well, so this was the book that we had to buy. When I saw it at Kinokuniya it was $59.99!!! but in school we can buy it for $33. :)

It's actually very interesting to read. It doesn't get too technical and the sentences are not very long. Oh, and it has lots of purrtty peeeekturessssssss..... *_*

...As for being the extended version, it has a few extra pages at the back.

So anyway, yesterday, I went to the Pixar exhibition at the Science Centre and it was AWESOME!!!!

We got to get in with the price of $9 instead of $21 coz my whole class went with the school. Apparently its not enough to just show a student card to get a discount. Everyone in my course had to go because, we're doing animation and, yeah...

When we got there the first thing to do was to watch Toy Story, the original one, in 3D. It didn't really look that different, coz it was made so long ago then just turned to 3D, the 3d effect doesn't really make much difference. But it was great watching the first movie again, haven't seen it in a long time. :)

And the drawings and sketches and sculptures in there were AMAZING!!

Like many of the "mood panels" were painted on little triangles only slightly bigger than a postage stamp. Using ACRYLIC PAINT! Like there were some storyboards of A Bug's Life drawn that way. With little ant silhouettes!!!!

And there was a Toy Story zoetrope with the toy soldiers parachuting out of their bucket, Jessie, from Toy Story 2, twirling a lasso, Buzz Lightyear on a bouncy ball, Woody riding the horse and the little three-eyes aliens jumping around, popping in and out of the ground or just waving. It showed the whole thing spinning to see the figures moving, then slowed down to show that its actually many figures in different consecutive poses then sped it up again. It was really cool but looking at it too long could give you a headache coz of the flickering effect.

And there was this dark room with a long screen and they were projecting the storyboards with a little extra animation here and there and with some awesome sound effects it was like you could really feel like you were in that environment...It's kinda hard to describe but it was AWESOME!!!!!!

And some of my classmates were like saying, no wonder our Design Fundamental teacher keeps on telling us "You guy no concept"!. Coz all the stuff there was amazing!. Like Sulley from Monsters' Inc. went through many different redesigns and every single detail was worked out. Like there was this one picture with a model of Sulley and little notes indicating how the fur on the different parts of his body should be animated. And even the direction of the fur was specified. Like there was this paper with many different Sulley heads, coloured in the final colours, and pieces of tracing paper taped over each half-heads to experiment different fur directions for his face.

And like at the Ratatouille section, there were 5 drawings of the exact same view, outside the restaurant Gusteau's, but at different times of the day, early morning, morning, afternoon, evening and night.

And all the drawings were just AWESOME!!!! Like there was this Charcoal(!) drawing of Bruce the shark from Finding Nemo. And also many pastel and acrylic paintings. Acrylic! Which is a huge pain in the ass to use but the way they use it to blend colours and create shades and pictures was like poster paint. Also, many of the later movies, like Ratatouille, Cars etc. had more digital paintings than those using physical media. But they looked like they had been drawn using markers or pencil or paint etc.

Oh and also there were these little exhibitions where they projected images on the walls. Like they would show a close up of a wireframe and then as it zoomed out the picture would form slowly, from inside out until finally they showed the full rendered image. All of us were like hypnotized, staring at the wall and like guessing which character or object the wireframes were and that was at the entrance of the exhibition! And like there was a family with 2 young kids and they just took one look at the images of the wireframes then just walked away. LOL XD

And they also showed some of Pixar's early works like Luxo Jr, Knick Knack etc...

Oh and also at the very end of the exhibition, like next to the exit, the first thing you see after you turn the corner is NANYANG POLYTECHNIC ><.

Yeah, at the end they also showcased some local work from NYP, TP, SP and some companies like Scrawl studios. But we were like saying how the NYP section seemed a bit... biased coz on our wall was like a timline of the school's awards and there were also some production bibles while the other walls just had pictures of characters XD

And I got a black and white (ok, GREY and white) minnie mouse soft toy! XD

I got this last weekend but still haven't posted on me blog

It's actually a sharpener. The holes are at the underside. Found this at a stationary shop at Funan. Was originally all laight orange so I painted it :) And is actually better than my previous sharpener coz it has a smaller hole and a slightly bigger-sized one for my thicker pencils :)

Yea, the outside and inside are diff designs coz I LOVE that crown thing but I also wanted to decorate my own laptop so I bought a simpler design. Gonna draw somethin in that white space XD

Oh and it's an Acer coz my mom bought it like about 2 or more years ago for work but didn't use it much and then she changed job so currently she very rarely uses it. And I'm probably not gonna use it that often so... No Macbook for me :(

Oh well, iMac and Cintiq is still very good already....

Though about 75% or more of ppl in my course have Macbook...

...But now I TOTALLY love my Acer!!!!!!! YEA! XD

Audio Visual Storytelling Test

Yup, that is the name of one of my subjects. It's basically learning to edit videos using the software "Final Cut Pro". So today the teacher gave us a simple test on it. We had to do a simple panning exercise and sort of sync it to some music.

Here is the one I did.

I SWEAR that is precisely what the teacher instructed us to do. He was especially particular about the zoom to the zebra butt as that was the punchline so it had to be fast. But the text at the end we were free to write whatever we wanted XD

The Scarecrow

So, today for my Art and Animation class, which is more like Film Studies coz that's what we do in that class, the teacher made us watch old shows. Like from back from the 1910s and 1920.
There was one which was apparently the first animation ever. Some guy drew 4000 (!) images in 1 month to show his colleagues that it was possible to create moving images just by drawing characters in various poses. For being the first animated cartoon, the animation was actually really smooth.

And we also watched a Charlie Chaplin film "A dog's life" as well as a film called "The Scarecrow" by his colleague and good friend "Buster" Keaton.

It was really funny! Like, the whole lecture theater was laughing half the time and at the end, everyone clapped.

Basically, it's about 2 brothers who are looking for love so both of them fall in love with the same woman and try to woo her. It's a simple plot but the whole point is to watch the funny and creative parts. :)

Well, glad that's over with. And this is only the first assignment of the first week of the first semester...

First Day of School

FINALLLY! Yup, today was my first day of school.

Lessons started at 1 but went at 9.30 to meet with my classmates first to eat brunch and work on assignments.

That's right, they gave us an assignment on the (-4)th day of school. Coz 4 days before school started, we had to go to school for a pre-semester briefing and to collect our student cards.

Have to draw 20 12x9 cm panels with the theme "This is my special world"

Anyway, today's lesson was Design Fundamental. 5 straight hours. But the teacher gave us a 1/2 hour break in the middle. The lesson was about concepts. So we were given 3 shapes and had to draw something. EVERY SINGLE exercise is graded. So that means that everything we do in class contributes to our marks. So instead of having a final exam, it's like we are having tests every single class.

Not that I'm complaining or anything, coz it's actually kinda fun...for me anyway coz I'm such a freak about drawing...

So tomorrow's lesson is animation fund., drawing fund. and communication skills... Yeah

Really not looking forward to that last one but I can't wait for drawing lessons. :)

Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian

It's as good as Harry Potter!

Basically, the Greek Gods are still around and they have demigod children with humans. The main character, Percy Jackson, is the son of Poseidon. And he goes on quests and stuff...

Somethin like that. Read the series! It is awesome.

Yes! Been waiting for this for a while but FINALLY...

Kuroshitsuji in English (Singapore) ! ><

Been waiting for it to be published in English. Almost decided to buy the American version which cost about 2X ^^

And also the American versions don't come with dust jackets so the illustrations and comics on the inner cover, which some comics like this one and also FMA and KHR have, cannot be seen ^^

Also, there are translation notes ^^ Previously they explained the japanese references at the side panels but in this one there is a section dedicated to that, like the American comics. And it doesn't only explain the japanese references, of which there aren't many anyway in this series, but also others as well. Like they even explain some of the food that Sebastian serves like Mille-feuille and Pain de campagne, which not a lot of people would no about.

No "Yes, My Lord" yet in this chapter but they do leave in the "I am a devil of a butler" and explain the meaning in the translation notes ><. Can't wait for Grell's. Wonder how they will translate his "sore demo hitsuji DEATH (desu)" XD

Weird Ass Plant

I swear this is 100% TRUE! No exaggerations.
The noise was like a weird muffled gurgling which suddenly started in the late morning. Every time I pour water, it stops for a while then continue again. Then at about 2 it stopped completely...

I now officially have money in my CPF account. Seriously.

Apparently, during Nov-Dec, students waiting for O level results don't have to contribute, but from January then have to. So for the next 1 and a 1/2 months, I have to contribute 20% of my salary and the company contribute ?%.

I would just like to say: LOL ><

I don't know why but I find it EXTREMELY hilarious. My colleague worked out that if I worked there for about 11 years, I would be able to afford a 3-room HDB unit. LOL

Finally got this...

Yup, it is an actual pocket watch. It came with that card on the right... don't know what it's for. There's what looks like a magnetic strip at the back and some chinese word. Didn't bother to read the words...hehe. Seriously, what is that card for, it has the number 350 on the front but why would these watches be numbered, it's not like their limited edition or anything...

Also, found this at the stall near the exit...It's a CCS Artbook ><. At first, I saw this... and I was like...hmmm, do I really want to spend so much money( coz it was already about 4 so I didn't have a lot of money left) but then I thought... meh it's quite an ok price for an artbook and besides I really love CLAMP's artwork. So I told the people tending the stall that I wanted to buy it and they said it was $4... I was like 0.0 BUY!!!!! OMG!!!! This is seriously even better than the $9.90 one I got on Wednesday. >< *squee*

...ok, actually I also wanted to blog about the Cosplay competition...but.... this post has gone on long enough. I've been typing away for the past hour... also photos are a pain in the ass to upload and shift to the correct positions. Besides, it's not like anyone reading this blog will be interested... so...

Haven't posted in quite a while... This post is gonna be rather long with lots of piccies ><

Firstly, Wednesday...

On wed, I had no work(that's right, I haven't quit my job yet ><) because my office had some event thingy, so I went out shopping with MY money X) Walked around Vivo City a bit before going to that shop in Chinatown Point ><

When i was at one of the shops in Vivo, I found a CLAMP no kiseki Volume 1(Taiwanese Chinese Ver.) at just $9.90. Google it if you don't know what that is coz I was too lazy to take a pic ><. Usually costs around $30+ in Kinokuniya :) Every volume comes with 3 chess pieces and the one in the 1st is Sakura from CCS (Queen) and the black and white Mokona (Pawns). It is probably near impossible for me to ever collect all chess pieces but they are really nice, well-made figurines :) Again, no piccies coz I was too lazy XD

Also, I was looking around at another shop, it was called Toybox I think, and I saw this...

In case, it's not too clear, it's apparently Twilight prop jewellry. I was like 0.0 when I saw this. I didn't even know the movie cast wore special jewellry. Are there really people crazy enough to buy this? ...

After that, went to watch Spy Next Door with Samson. Kinda funny... At first we went into the wrong cinema, 3 instead of 1 ><>

Went to SOY'B' today with Samson and his DPA classmates, my future class-and-schoolmates (ahhhh Can't wait to go to school ><). It is actually more fun to go to a convention in a group than alone. :) Bought quite a lot of stuff :) Also saw Jiaman there at one of the artist stalls :)

This was the first thing I bought and only fan-made item I bought, usually only like to buy official merch ><><>< ?... Also, I wonder why there was a Haru but no Kyoko... :)

Another thing I bought was a Shugo Chara, specifically Miki, the blue and artistic one ><><

It's a figurine that fits into an egg, like the Shugo Charas ><

Anyway, on Friday I went back to Pan-in-th-box to submit a drawing for a contest and I got a Hyper Tsuna figurine!!!

On Saturday, went to the IT fair at Singapore Expo and my dad decided to get me an iMac. OMG!!!!. Which is what I'm using to blog now.

So, if anyone read my Twitter, they would know that I went to AFA, at Suntec, on Saturday.

There was a LOT of stuff there... but not a lot from the series I watch, especially KATEKYO HITMAN REBORN!!!!!!

But I found this shop called Pan-in-the-Box(lol weird name) AND IT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! It's at Chinatown Point #02-09.

Went there today and I felt like fainting. So much stuff...and also can buy/rent cosplay outfits!!!!!

Well, there was a new patch for MapleStory today (yes, I still play it) and some new Cash Shop items seemed... familiar.

Here's my char wearing the "Cherry Blossom" suit and hair with "Ninja shoes"

So, I decided to play around with this Fire Shadow thing.

With some war paint on, he looks even more like a main char from a popular anime I do not watch :)

Ok, now that that's out of the way... Yesterday I went to the to the Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention 2009 at Suntec. So since it's the last day, there was Coscon cosplay contest for anime and game characters.

Ok, these 2 weren't in the competition but I saw them on the way to the entrance. It's Neo-Queen Serenity and Tuxedo Kamen from Sailor Moon :) There was also a Black Lady next to them but I was too lazy to take her photo. On the way, I also saw a Lavi (D. Gray-man) with a giant hammer. :):):)

Now, on to the actual Coscon competitors. I only took a photo of the characters I know, there's actually more competitors than this. I was standing at the side of the stage so I had a clear view of characters leaving the stage. Most of them missed the stairs though, especially those wearing masks. LOL

If you look to the left, on the screen, it's someone cosplaying the Freedom Gundam. The wingspan was so wide that the cosplayer couldn't climb the steps so he had to pose below instead :):):)

Been lagging on posts again, not that there's anything interesting to post recently anyway... School is as boring as ever.

Anyway, yesterday, I went to Kinokuniya... yeah, I know... I'm so dead when my parents actually find out my results

I wanted to find this book called Blood and Chocolate, but it was out of stock :(:(:(

So, I bought 4 Kaichou-wa Maid-sama Singaporean Chinese manga, Those With Wings manga (6) which finally came out ><, 2 Discworld books and a 'Coraline' graphic novel.

So, the KwMs came with a poster each so I pasted them all over my room, of course.

Been busy revising for the Mid-Years.....

... Sorry, a pig just flew into my house so I had to go and chase it away and close the windows.

Anyway, just came back from Chinese O level orals....

I was like so nervous, especially when reading the passage. And the topic for the Conversation was rather unexpected. It was about the 2010 YOGs!!!!

Like, when I was waiting for my turn (I was the 2nd btw), my classmate next to me was looking at some notes. Before that, my chinese teacher had said that the conversation topic would probably be about volunteering and how Singaporeans knowadays don't really have compassion, something like that. So then, I saw on my classmate's notes there were some points about YOG. And I was thinking, what if they come out that topic. Because I remembered during the 2 weeks Intensive Chinese before the written exam, the teacher went through it before. And I'm not really into sports so I don't really know about YOG. Then I thought, "Ah whatever, too late to prepare now anyway." I didn't bring any materials to revise. Just the Entry Proof and my IC.

And the yopic was actually about the Youth Olympics!!! I hope I didn't look stunned or anything because for a few seconds, I was like "SHIT!!!" ... actually, I think at that point my mind was already blank but whatever, moving on.

I thought I spoke rather l;ittle actually. The 2 invigilators asked like about 3 to 4 questions. The only one I was most confident about was when they asked " Do you think this Youth Olympic Games will be successful?" And I said yes (obviously), and then I remembered during Intensive Chinese the teacher was like asking us, do you know why recently they have shows like 'The School Nationals' and he told us it was to promote sports or something like that because of the Youth Olympics next year. Of course, I don't know how to say it in chinese, but I suddenly thought of that drama about the table tennis. I think its because the day before or something, I saw the advertisement for its DVD and I was wondering if anyone would even buy it. Yeah...

But, my classmate who went before me (if you're seeing this HI!!! ;P) told me that I actually talked quite long. Funny, I didn't notice. Anyway, I don't know if that is a good thing. At first it seems like it, but I remembered my teacher told me before (can't remember who or when) that if you don't have enough points, the teacher will keep on asking you until there is enough, but I don't think 3 to 4 questions is a lot. Unless, it's because my memory is bad and I don't remember properly.

In which case, GOOD! Because I want to forget all about today. So I'm gonna watch anime and snack on junk food now!

Wii Gathering

Went to nad's house yesterday, mainly to play the Wii ^^

As usual, Peeps could not go. :(

Spent most of the time playing this games coz its fun and 2 people can play. I'm not very good at it :( though I did get 1st place like about twice, I think.

We also played in teams, like 2 people pair up and each play 2 races. Mel and me paired and Nad and Sian paired. Ended up in tie though coz we got first in the first competition and they got first in the second one.

Some of the rotes were insane, especially the dreaded RAINBOW ROAD!!! *ominous music*

Most of the road was hanging in midair so you could drop off the sides anytime and the road was like a roller coaster. I didn't play thoug it was fun watching the others play, espe

cially hen they fall ^^ hehe

But Nad's sister is damn good at this game, coz she has so much time to play. *sigh* I wanna be in primary schol too. I dun wanna take O levels :(:(:(

Another game we played was this.

It was fun coz with this game can us the Wiimote in many different ways. Like stirring, chopping and stuff. I was better at the really fast sections like shopping but I hate the stupid peeling. It's so damn slow and have to be so precise!!!! RAWR >:(

The funniest was when we made the hotdog. I couldn't even catch the sausage. And Mel, who I was competing against, caught it with half of it sticking out of the bun!!! Then both of us anyhow put the ketchup on :) Half the ketchup was like out of the bun ^^ and yet it defied gravity by staying at the top. haha

I also got to play Paper Mario!!! So fun, being able to switch between 2D and 3D. Although I got stuck at this level with a weird blue platform so I couldn't get past and gave up after a while.

And now I'm being reminded what a pain in the ass it is to be unable to tie up or even tuck my hair behind my ears. Its all freakin stuck to my face which is so bloody uncomfartable.

Went to the airport to say goodbye to my chinese teacher. She'll be back in China for 3 weeks.

Since it was her birthday yesterday, we gave her a card and a box of 520 straw stars. Because in chinese, '520' sounds like 'I love you' :)

OMG!!!! I...I...I dropped my water bottle :(

It's those aluminum ones so it had a dent!!!!!!

And it's painted so the paint cracked!!!

I've been trying to prevent this since I got it coz' the last bottle was always dropped and it had like a gazillion dents :(

Anyway, I kinda used something else to cover it up.

I used paper clay to cover up a whole then I stuck a heart shaped bead which happened to be off a similar colour to the bottle

Luckily, the dent was near the name so it actually looks nice, like it's supposed to be there.

But, I don't know what will happen if its washed.

I'm alive!!! It's amazing. I actually survived... 6 nearly consecutive hours of chinese and 1 1/2 hours of chinese tuition...

Woah... I think my brain is melting

Anyway, my chinese teacher was so nice !!!!! She bought our class cake to eat!!!

After the "grouped class", all the banded class together in the AVA, every class have to go back to their classrooms. And I was groaning because I thought we were going to have god knows how many more hours of chinese. But then, my teacher brought out 2 cakes!!!

Then while we were eating, Gasper kept on saying "A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips" LOL

So sweet!!! I love my chinese teacher. And she told us that she would be going for an English oral exam tomorrow so our whole class was helping her write a speech for her class.

Haha. We put in sentences like "Even though sometimes they give me trouble, I love my students", something like that. So thick skin. XD
